WORK ADJUSTMENT TRAINING SERVICES
The goal of the Work Adjustment Training (WAT)
program is to provide an individualized training program
of vocational counseling, behavior management, work hardening
and work-oriented learning for individuals with vocational
disabilities in order to assist them in achieving their optimum
level of vocational potential. The training process occurs
in an employment setting that best fits your needs and work
potential. This could include utilizing ABC work areas and/or
community work sites.
Admissions Criteria:
- Must be referred by a sponsoring agency or appropriate referral
source.
- Must have adequate vocational information.
(Appropriateness of the information is at the discretion
of the Vocational Evaluation staff.)
- Person should have an identified vocational goal.
Program Description: The training is structured and goal-directed.
Your ABC Program Coordinator will develop a treatment plan with
you that will indicate specific behaviors and skills in need
of change. A written plan with procedures and target dates
will also be developed to assist you in accomplishing these
areas in need of improvement. In most cases, areas in need
of development or change will be identified previously through
a vocational evaluation. Examples of areas addressed during
training may include: increasing work speed, improving quality,
attendance, punctuality, work hardening, grooming, co-program
participant and supervisory relations, self-concept, and
adjustment to disability.
Your progress during training at ABC is reviewed often with
your Program Coordinator. A formal staffing/meeting is usually
held every four weeks with your sponsoring agent and other
involved parties. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss
your progress and determine needs for modifications or revisions
to your plan.
The length of the Work Adjustment Training program is dependent
upon your progress within the program. Completion of training
is considered when stated goals are accomplished. For most
individuals, training will be completed within 4 to 12
weeks.
