Supported Employment

Our Goal is to Assist Individuals in Improving Their
Quality of Life by Achieving Success in Their Careers

The Supported Employment Program assists individuals with a disability in obtaining and successfully maintaininging employment in the community.

Crews of workers, with ABC supervision, do work at over 40 businesses and locations in the Rochester area.

Examples include:

  • Housekeeping and laundry services at motels
  • Dishwashing at businesses
  • Custodial services at churches
  • Delivering mail/printouts at manufacturing facilities
  • Assisting staff at hospitals and clinics
  • Attending and maintaining locker rooms at health clubs

These individuals are employed by ABC and perform their jobs at community sites.

ABC also supports workers who are hired directly by area employers. We provide job coaching and training to individuals so job tasks are done to meet the standards set by businesses. We maintain ongoing contact with workers and employers to help improve communication, identify work goals and problem-solve.

Vocational Counseling

At ABC, we use an individualized, person-centered planning method to help workers find the best fit with their job choices. It is a team approach, and the team includes the worker, family members, social workers and residential providers. We all work together with employers to set career goals and achieve success!

On-the-Job Support

We can assist workers and employers to identify ways to improve the individual's productivity and work quality. We help develop work goals that are specific to the work setting. Then we monitor, provide oversight and hold performance reviews to assess progress towards those goals.

Each worker has skills and challenges and is respected as an individual. Our staff tries to teach them in he way that they learn best

We provide regular visits to the job sites. On new jobs we often provide job coaching to assist with training. We may also assist with transportation, training, orientation, paperwork, and the development of job duty checklists. Our involvement is determined by the needs of the worker and the business partner.
