| The
Abilities Unlimited Day Program offers a full day of structured
activities and supervision designed to maximize the physical
and
emotional health of its participants. In addition to the
structured Day
Program, Community Independent Living Skills Services are
offered
to support and train individuals that are making the transition
to
or currently living on their own. Adults between the ages
of 18 and
65 whohave acquired physical and/or cognitive impairments
as a result of brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis,
accident or a variety of other conditions are eligible
for services. |

Program Description – Day
Program
The program office hours are 8:30am-4:30pm and program hours
are 9:30am-4pm, Monday through Friday. The program is licensed
to serve up to 30 participants in center at any one time.
Participants are offered a variety of daily activities tailored
to meet their specific needs, interests and schedules. Activities
are designed to enhance the participants cognitive, social
and communication skills. Program components include independent
living skills support, cognitive and physical fitness, wellness,
prevocational skills, community integration, leisure education,
peer support, behavior management, communication and social
skills training. For individuals with vocational goals, a
work readiness and pre-vocational training component is available
in conjunction with/or separate from the day program opportunities.
In addition to programming in center, there are opportunities
for community based leaning experiences, as integration into
the community and development and maintenance of community
skills are a key element of our overall program philosophy.
Morning and afternoon snacks are offered. Direct personal
care and supportive training in activities of daily living
are provided as needed.
Program Description - Independent Living Skills
The primary responsibilities of the AU/ILS Program, is to
support people in developing the skills they need to live
as independently as possible within the community. There
are a number of areas that the ILS program affects the person’s
life. The staff provides support and training in the areas
of social skills, community integration, transportation,
home management, pet care, finances, cooking, shopping, family
supports, budgeting, self advocacy, etc…
The primary goals of Abilities Unlimited are:
- To maximize the participant’s physical and emotional
well being by supporting self sufficiency in areas of activities
of daily living and health maintenance.
- To create a meaningful daytime
experience that meets the diverse needs and interests of
each participant.
- To encourage participant’s integration into our
community by providing a broad range of community based
experiences.
- To provide stimulation and maintenance of
participant’s
cognitive functioning and increase self awareness through
creative and self expressive programming.
Fees and
Referrals
The CADI and TBI waivers may cover the cost of those
participants eligible for such funding. Fees for the
program may also be paid privately. Health care and
social service professionals are encouraged to refer
potential participants to Abilities Unlimited for an
evaluation and interview. Families and potential participants
are welcome to contact us directly for more information.
