WHAT'S
NEW
CSD Video Relay Service
There is a flurry of hand motion in the PACTT computer lab lately
thanks to the generosity of CSD (www.C-S-D.org).
Their donation of a free web cam provides ABC participants and visitors
who communicate using American Sign Language (ASL) with an alternative
way to place phone calls. Here’s how it works:
The individual clicks on the desktop shortcut to access the MN
Relay Service website.
Next the web cam is activated by clicking on the green play button.
The phone number is typed in.
Finally a click on the dial button sends the call to the relay service.
A certified video interpreter (VI) will appear in a video window
on the computer screen. The person placing the call signs what they
want to say. The VI verbally relays what the caller is signing and
then signs to the caller the verbal response from the receiver of
the call.
